How strong are Global Building Solutions' Structural Insulated Panels? The example shown here is a typical 4" Fiber Cement Panel, unbraced (no internal additional support built into the panel). It can withstand the weight of a full-size pickup, or 9 full grown men.
We can provide you wish all sorts of racking and shear wall testing numbers... but sometimes a visual beats a page full of numbers. Quite simply, SIPs panels offer one of the strongest building systems available on the market today.
INSECT, MOLD, MILDEW CONTROL
Global Building Solutions is proud to announce that all Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam used in the construction of GBS Structural Insulated Panels is manufactured with an additive formulated to resist normally occurring exposure to wood-boring insects, specifically carpenter ants and termites. It is a process which uses a natural mineral (Borate), and this
non-toxic treatment is Registered with the Environmental Protection Agency, meeting the standards of ASTM D3345 and WPA EL 12-72.
This same treatment has been proven to not support the growth of three types of common Mold, as well as Mildew, far outperforming foam untreated for mold resistance.
Further, the EPS used in Global Building Solutions’ SIPs is environmentally sound – the product contains no CFC’s, HFC’s or HCFC’s. The additive allowing for termite repellence and mold resistance is inert, non-nutritive, highly stable, and therefore will not decompose, decay, or produce undesirable gases or leachates. It is also recyclable, safe for waste-to-energy
systems and landfills.
Additionally, the manufacturer warrants that the EPS insulation will maintain 100% of the minimum R-Values identified in ASTM C 578 and CAN/CGSB-51.20 for a period of Twenty (20) years. This means that the EPS in Global Building Solutions’ SIPs will have the same R-Value in 20 years as on the first day of installation.
THIRD PARTY INSPECTION
Global Building Solutions' panels are inspected by the internationally recognized independent
third party agency, Timber Products Inspection. Timber Products Inspection, Inc. (TP) is an independent inspection, testing and consulting company with expertise in all phases of the wood products industry.
TP provides quality auditing services in, among other things, component fabrication. For more information on Timber Products Inspection, visit their website HERE.
A STRUCTUAL INSULATED PANEL IS LIKE
AN I-BEAM
The combination of the rigid foam insulated core, bonded to an outer sheathing, forms a monolithic structural I-beam. The strength of the panel comes from displacing the load across the structure.
Panel construction meets all applicable fire and building codes. Global Building Solutions can provide Engineering Certification for all projects. This includes load tests, to include transverse, vertical compression, and racking sheer load. Fire tests include a corner room burn and fire exposure under load. Specifications for roof load tests, racking
load tests, and axial load tests can be provided.
CONNECTION STRENGTH
Global Building Solutions systems use panel screws, not drywall screws. What's the difference? Click here for detailed specifications on the Olympic
fastener we recommend. Their heat treated, coated-steel shank is 3/16" diameter, and has a 1/4" major diameter at the threads. The spade point is designed to self-tap into wood and easily installs with a couple of blows with a framing hammer to penetrate the skin and foam, while a cordless screw gun quickly easily anchors the screw to the solid framing member below.
Each panel screw has a pullout resistance of 840lb. When these screws were tested for failure to shear, the OSB skins failed before the screw would break.
